Ozoair

Ozone is a very powerful disinfectant that has been used in many countries to disinfect in operating rooms in hospitals, clean rooms or many other critical points… This method of disinfection has several advantages:

  • It is a more powerful Bactericide and Virucide than chlorine.
  • It is deodorizing, eliminates bad odours.
  • Ecological treatment: it does not leave residues.
  • It is safer: it is not necessary to buy or store dangerous chemicals.

OZOAIR

The OZOAIR is a high-end industrial ozone generator using corona discharge technology, with a lifetime of nearly 20,000 hours.

What is Ozone?

Ozone (O3) is a molecule composed of three oxygen atoms. It forms when oxygen molecules are excited enough to break down into atomic oxygen, of two different energy levels, and collisions between the different atoms are what generate the formation of ozone. It is an allotropic form of oxygen, that is, it is the result of the rearrangement of oxygen atoms when the molecules are subjected to an electric shock. It is therefore the most active form of oxygen.

Why use Ozone as a disinfectant?

The germicidal activity of ozone is based on its high capacity for direct oxidation: thanks to this quality, all the structures macromolecular cells, both microbial and non microbial (molds, bacteria, yeasts, viruses, etc.) are profoundly altered, decompose and disappear, leaving no residue; only oxygen. In conclusion, fast, complete and residue-free germicidal action. Another of the most effective properties of ozone is the elimination of all types of odors, both chemical and organic.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes ozone as the most efficient disinfectant against all types of microorganisms.

FAQ

WHAT IS OZONE?

OZONE is the molecule with three oxygen atoms, whose chemical formula is O3. OZONE is an unstable gas in solution with an average lifetime of a few minutes. It is the most powerful oxidant, used to destroy mould, bacteria and viruses, as well as organic and non-organic contaminants.

The germicidal activity of OZONE is based on its high direct oxidation capacity: thanks to this quality, all the macromolecular structures of microbial cells (moulds, bacteria, yeasts, viruses, etc.) are deeply altered, decompose and disappear without leaving any residue apart from oxygen.

In short, a fast, complete and residue-free germicidal action.

CAN YOU PROVIDE SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE ON THE DISINFECTING EFFECTIVENESS OF OZONE?

Due to its nature, ozone, since it cannot be packaged and marketed, is not included in most lists of biocides or disinfectants that have been drawn up by standardisation bodies, despite the fact that its viricidal capacity is well proven, being much higher than that of chlorine, the most widely used disinfectant. In fact, ozone has been used as a biocide for decades.

Ozone has no limits on the number and species of microorganisms it can eliminate, since it acts on them at various levels. Direct oxidation of the cell wall is its main mode of action. This oxidation causes the breakage of the cell wall, thus allowing the cellular compounds to come out. Ozone also causes damage to the core constituents of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), causing the breakdown of carbon-nitrogen bonds, leading to depolymerization. Microorganisms are therefore not able to develop immunity to ozone as they do to other substances.

Ozone is therefore effective in eliminating bacteria, viruses, protozoa, nematodes, fungi, cellular aggregates, spores and cysts (Rice, 1984; Owens, 2000; Lezcano, 1999).

It has been proven that ozone is at least ten times more powerful than chlorine as a disinfectant. As we have already pointed out, and according to the WHO, ozone is the most efficient disinfectant for all types of microorganisms: http://www.who.int/water_sanitation_health/dwq/S04.pdf

CAN OZOAIR CERTIFY ITS EFFECTIVENESS AGAINST THE NEW CORONAVIRUS?

More than 17 scientific studies have shown that ozone gas destroys the SARS coronavirus. As the structure of the new SARS-COV-2 is almost identical to that of previous known coronavirus (more than 80%), it is assumed that this method could also be effective.

This criterion applies not only to ozone, but to all disinfectant products on the market, since we are not yet aware of any positive test results of products or chemicals against the new SARS-COV-2.

If you find a product that mentions that it has been tested against the new coronavirus (SARS-COV-2), it is most likely not reliable information.

CAN OZONE DAMAGE MATERIALS? IS IT DANGEROUS?

The only material we know of that could be affected by ozone would be natural rubber. However, it would take many, many hours of exposure for this material to be affected, so in our case there would be no consequences.

However, the ozone treatment should be carried out in compartmentalized areas (limiting gas leakage as much as possible) in the absence of people, animals and plants. The use of protective masks and goggles is recommended when handling the equipment.
